Kathy

Hi, My work with young people began when I moved to a village in North Somerset and found that young people had nothing to do there but hang out at the local shops! I heard that North Somerset Youth Service wanted to reopen the youth club and so I applied for a job as a youth support worker and that was the beginning of my youth work career. I found the work challenging but stimulating and felt privileged to be able to offer support to young people on a 1to1 basis and through group work. Since then I have become a JNC professionally qualified youth worker having gained my Youth Work degree at the University of Gloucestershire and feel passionate about empowering young people to fulfil their potential.

I have been lucky enough to have worked with young people in a variety of settings. As well as working in youth clubs I also have experience of working on detached projects where I supported young people to get more involved in their community. For example one of the projects involved young people working alongside a local sculptor to design and build a piece of community art. Another project involved young people painting a mural of their community on a wall in their local park to brighten it up. I was then appointed as the participation worker and supported North Somerset Youth Parliament to fulfil their manifesto aims. I have also been fortunate to have worked within a youth offending team designing and leading issued based activities on relationships, sexual health, and drugs and alcohol misuse which I found extremely rewarding.

I have since gained a qualification in fund raising skills and have successfully secured funding for youth organisations who currently commission us. Setting up EPIC Youth has meant that I can continue to do the work that I love most, Youth Work!

Kim

Hi, I am Kim! I have been working as a youth worker since 2007. I came into youth work when I moved to Bristol when I was 16. I did not know anyone and went to my local youth club to try and make friends and then I never really left!

I am studying for a Masters degree in Youth and Community Work so I hope to develop my youth work skills.

I am a trained No Worries Adviser and also a support to stop smoking consultant and I am always happy to sit down and have a chat if anyone needs some advice.

I love music, arts and crafts and dance and I have lots of experience of running youth radio stations.
